Instagram Scavenger Hunt

Our middle schoolers are social media savvy, current with the latest trends...my job is to keep up and use it in our classroom! This activity was an end of the school year fun assignment.
I chose teams, a captain who had their ipod/iphone device, and together as a class we chose a hashtag...#christianedrocks. This was a must.

Yes, they were let loose with their list. We had a designated spot for a "meet up" - 12 minute intervals. In the mean time, I was seeing precisely what they were doing/posting via our hashtag.

Our hunt: to find, create, and laugh together at their awesomeness.
Here is a collection on one team's instagram posts #christianedrocks

Celebrating Passover

As we prepared our hearts for Easter, and because we study the Old Testament, it was such a joy to share a Passover Meal with each class. We learned the meaning behind each item of food on our plate, remembering God's faithfulness to the Israelites, rescuing them from slavery by providing the sacrifice of a lamb, it's blood to mark the passover.
We also celebrating God's faithfulness to us, providing Jesus, whose blood was shed for us that our sins would be forgiven. As John the Baptist looked and saw Jesus, he spoke these words,

"Behold the Lamb of God, who has come to take away the sins of the world." John 1:29

Breaking News...

Our students worked (and had fun) together as News Anchor and Reporter to bring the latest from Genesis 14.

Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim against Kedorlaome king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills. 11 The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away. 12 They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
13 A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamrethe Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.
17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).

From Bible to Comics, we are learning!

Four lessons, many truths, and comics = well, knowing whether or not the students "got it!"
Adam & Eve, Cain, Abel and Seth, Noah & the ark, and the Tower of Babel. Students had to work in teams, each choosing one strip of to complete an entire comic!

The students had to collaborate to form their entire comic, use technology, and their creativity. The end results are the Bible into comics...and we know they "got it."

6th grade Pictures with Typography

Being creative with the use of different mediums and typography the students had to create a picture that represented the theme of the books we had covered this far into our semester (an overview, not yet in-depth of the the books). Name of book and a verse were to be used.
Here are a few... enjoy!

Pictorial storylines

A project inspired by a random (to us) guy who posted about how to return his lost camera...and so we turned to God's Word to learn more about some well-known and some lesser known people in the history of the Israelites.
Students had to research their chosen person and create a "slide" timeline of words on an organizational chart. Each slide had to be supported by a Scripture reference.
Requirements included the use of props in two - three slides and showing emotion!

Here are my 7th graders. Enjoy!
